Join us for the Big Glean!
It is a longstanding tradition of ours to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Sukkoth, a celebration of the fall harvest falling shortly after the New Year. Each year for the past seven years, we have gathered with our community in the fields for a group “gleaning,” or a collecting of unharvested food for a donation to local food banks and shelters. Sharing in the harvest to share with those in need is a beautiful way to honor the tradition of “Tzedakah,” or good deeds and charity, while aligning with Oxbow’s mission: to inspire people to eat healthy, sustainably grown food and to steward our natural resources for future generations.
We invite our friends, family, and community to join in this season’s “Big Glean” this Sunday, October 16 from 10:00AM – 12:00PM. We will be joined by our many partners, including Hopelink and other food pantry partners, and our wonderful CSA community. Last year marked our most successful glean yet, with our community harvesting over 1,500 pounds of food for donation.
This is a family-friendly event full of hard work and good cheer! After the glean, we welcome you to join us for our Oxtober Fall Festival and enjoy live music, arts & crafts, food trucks, beer & wine, and fun for all ages.
Gleaners should park and meet in our West lot near the pumpkin patch. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe boots or shoes. Bring work gloves if you have them. A water bottle is handy, too.
We hope to see you there!
P.S. If you’re running a little late, no worries! Just check in at the farm stand tell them you’re looking for “Team Glean”.
UPDATE 10/17/2016: The Big Glean has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 23rd! Please see our Facebook Page for event details and updates.
