Summer Cover Crop Field Day

June 24 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Free – $15

This tour is geared towards agriculture industry professionals and aspiring professionals, but is open to all.

Join our Agriculture Program Manager, Anthony Reyes, for an exclusive behind-the-scenes exploration of the farm. As a farm’s most valuable resource, soil, is critical to protect. Cover crops are an essential component of that conservation and corner stone of our Organic cropping system and soil health management plan.

During this field tour, we will discuss how to choose and implement the right mix of summer cover crops for your space and have an opportunity to see different mixes and varieties perform. Topics will include the best seeding methods, appropriate densities, and the optimal timing for mowing or roller crimping in no-till systems.

We will explore the benefits, types, and methods of incorporating cover crops in organic farming systems. Additionally, you’ll learn about our ongoing trials, including cover crop mix experiments, and have the opportunity to ask questions about cover crops or general organic and sustainable farming practices.

About the Instructor

Anthony Reyes has over 15 years of experience working at the intersection of food, agriculture, and social justice, working for nonprofit farms throughout the West Coast at a variety of scales. He holds a degree from UC Santa Cruz in Food, Agriculture, and Social Justice, has certificates in botany and horticulture from UCLA and has a deep passion for soil, soil health, and interrogating sustainable agricultural systems.
