Tips & Reminders | Getting to Oxbow | FAQs

Oxbow’s Family Farm Adventure field trips are a fun, hands-on way to get kids of all ages engaged in learning about food, farming, and nature! From from masks to group size, you might have some questions about what to expect during your visit to the farm.

A Few useful reminders before you embark on your adventure:
  • Please be on time. We suggest that you arrive at least 15 min early to use the restrooms, eat a snack if needed, and take care of other business. Tardiness could reduce your tour time, as different groups will need our attention.
  • Our tours take place outdoors, rain and shine! Please check the forecast on your field trip day. Please have your family come dressed appropriately—this means rain boots no matter what! (There is always dew on the grass).
  • Please no electronic devices while on our tour. We’d like to encourage you to be present. Photos are okay, but we discourage the use of cell phones or texting while on tour.
  • You are welcome to picnic before or after your tour! Please let us know in advance of your field trip if you plan to have your lunch before or after your adventure. We have picnic tables for your use, and we ask that you practice leaving no trace and make sure you find your picnic spot the same way (or better!) than you found it.

If you’re visiting Oxbow, please use our Public Entrance off of Hwy 203, just 1.4 miles south of the 124th St. roundabout. This entrance is used for events, Oxtober, school field trips, and summer camps, and as a general meeting place for most groups visiting Oxbow.  Drive slowly (10 mph) on this road.  PLEASE INFORM ALL BUS DRIVERS/CARPOOLERS.

Oxbow’s address is 10819 Carnation-Duvall Rd NE. Open in Google Maps.

Upon your arrival:
  • Drive slowly (10 MPH) on all farm roads and watch for other guests.
  • Follow the signs directing you to the parking area.
  • Do not drive past the Farm Stand and into the Oxbow grounds unless you’ve been instructed to by Oxbow staff.

Farmers will be there 10 minutes prior to your program time. Feel free to safely explore the grassy area while waiting.

We offer the option to defer payment at the time of registration to allow schools to reserve their preferred program slot. Please pay your registration balance or send us your purchase order at least 2 weeks prior to the day of the program, unless prior arrangements have been made. If you need to make other arrangements, contact us at education@oxbow.org.

We do not retain a cancellation fee. If the date and time of your registered program does not work, we ask that cancellations be made 2 weeks prior to the day of the program.

If you have not already payed during registration, please call 425-788-1134 and pay via credit card over the phone, bring a check the day of your field trip, or mail a check before the day of your field trip to:

FAQs

The Family Farm Adventure is a single, 2-hour visit for your immediate family, household or pod. Come ready to learn, explore, harvest and have a fantastic, educational time at the farm.

We ask visitors who feel sick to avoid visiting; we can reschedule if needed to keep everyone safe.
During your time at Oxbow, we’ll require visitors to wear masks while indoors in places like the Farm Stand, the Nursery, clubhouse. We will also ask participants to wear a mask during food handling procedures to serve participants the washed veggies and fruits that we harvested together.

Parents and chaperones are expected to be present in mind and body throughout the tour. We ask that adult participants be available to help the Farmer-Educators encourage adherence to Oxbow’s safety guidelines (mask wearing, hand washing, maintaining distance, respecting the fields, and waiting to snack until invited).

With your help, our Farmers can direct all their attention and energy to providing high quality, engaging education for your group! Farmers will likely direct questions and learning topics toward the children in the group, but we hope that parents and chaperones will also engage and have a fun time. All ages are encouraged to ask questions!

When preparing for your visit to Oxbow, please consider packing and bringing the following items:

  • Hand sanitizer
  • A well-fitting face mask for each member of your family
  • Water and snacks
  • Sunscreen and hat
  • Clothes/layers for inclement weather (we’ll be outside for the entire 2-hour tour)
  • Boots for mud and hiking

While we want to share Oxbow with everyone, the Family Farm Adventure is intended for family units, immediate households, or small COVID “pods” only. Each individual Family Farm Adventure is intended for approximately 10 total participants. Participants must be from your family/household unit or COVID pod.

Also, while we love dogs, they are NOT permitted anywhere at Oxbow, including in the parking area. Please leave your furry friends at home!

Totally! We love hosting adventures for school groups, clubs and troops. Please visit our Groups section to learn more.

Possibly. Other small groups (in adherence to WA State guidelines for gatherings) and Oxbow staff may be present on Oxbow grounds but will follow social distancing protocols. Your family unit will be the only people embarking on your Family Farm Adventure, led by one or two Farmer-Educators. Think of it as a private tour of Oxbow!

Yes! We ask you carefully follow Farmer instructions throughout your visit to the Kids’ Farm Field and wait to be invited to harvest. Your group will be able to harvest (with masks and clean hands) and snack once produce is washed.

We will provide opportunities for frequent hand washing at designated hand washing stations, and hand sanitizer will be available in throughout your visit. We have a designated outdoor Honey Bucket for visitors, and it is serviced and sanitized frequently.

Life happens, we get it. If your plans change, please reach out to us as soon as possible by email at education@oxbow.org or if it is time-sensitive you can call or text our OxEd Cell Phone at 425-419-6068 as soon as possible
