I’ve been part of Oxbow’s Communications and Marketing team for over two years, witnessing the symphony of seasons and the magic they weave into our lives. Embracing change here means savoring the unique beauty of each transition – from the vibrant blooms of spring to the golden hues of autumn.

Oxbow’s unwavering commitment to conservation and sustainability has been a perennial source of inspiration for me. This dedication shows up in the day-to-day work of our farmers, groundskeepers, growers, leaders, and collaborators. Their ability to work with the rhythm of the seasons and the weather profoundly acknowledges change’s integral role in our lives. They understand that change is at the center of evolution, and in turn of environmental sustainability, and it shines through in how they work, from growing and educating the community about the importance of native plants, implementing cover crops and dry farming to collaborating in projects for riparian restoration and assisted migration.

Working alongside people so passionately devoted to shaping a healthier world has fueled my own quest to discover incremental, day-to-day changes that can enhance the well-being of our communities and ecosystems. It is so fun to document these stories and share them with you through our blog posts, newsletters, and social media content!

As a guest instructor at Oxbow summer camps, I’ve cherished moments with kids, dissecting apples, exploring seeds, and releasing bugs along the Snoqualmie River. The OxEd Team‘s vibrant energy inspires singing, laughter, and a deep connection with the earth—their crucial work plants seeds of curiosity and kindness in everyone.

However, the heartfelt moments extend far beyond summer camps. Learning transcends generations and extends new experiences to all involved, from little kids to their grandmas, sharing the same youthful awe and curiosity as they stare at adorable live bats and learn about their roles as pollinators for the first time.These tangible connections we make with the land and our surrounding environment are paramount for developing a sense of responsibility and advocacy for a healthy planet. Witnessing these moments as parents exclaim that their kids returned from Oxbow and started eating all sorts of veggies, or seeing crowds of folks at events savoring seasonal flavors being cooked up at the outdoor kitchen is living proof that the opportunities and experiences Oxbow is providing are bringing a constant sense of awe, discovery, and connection.

Recently, as I was working on data and numbers for our end-of-year reports, I paused my work to browse our photo library and revisited all of those fun times at the farm, from summer camps and plant sales to Family Dinner and gleaning days. It has been wonderful to see families dive deeper into their advocacy journey by applying what they learn at Oxbow at home and returning to events, workshops, and tours.

Beyond crops and seasons, the essence of Oxbow lies in our people and community. Through rain, sunshine, floods, harvests, and hard work on cold days, we navigate change, forging connections that transcend the seasons. Thank you to all of you who continue supporting our work.

To those new around here I invite you to explore Oxbow and connect with the people, plants, and land around you. Attend a workshop, walk the trails, send your kids to camp, and dive into the vast amount of resources and knowledge that we’re all so eager to share. Whether a seasoned farmer, nature enthusiast, or gardening novice, Oxbow is where change is not feared but embraced—a catalyst for growth, sustainability, and the enduring beauty of the natural world.

As for me, while beets were once my sworn dinner plate nemesis, today, I savor a chocolate beet brownie made by my teammate, as I make my garden plans and include beets in the mix. A delicious testament to Oxbow’s profound impact on me, my family, and my ecosystem.

Join us in embracing change and cultivating a future where every season brings new opportunities for growth, learning, and harmony with the world around us. Together, we sow the seeds of change, nurturing a legacy that will endure for generations.

He sido parte del equipo de Comunicación y Marketing de Oxbow durante más de dos años, presenciando la sinfonía de las estaciones y la magia que tejen en nuestras vidas. Abrazar el cambio aquí significa saborear la belleza única de cada transición, desde las flores vibrantes de la primavera hasta los tonos dorados del otoño.

El compromiso inquebrantable de Oxbow con la conservación y la sostenibilidad ha sido una fuente constante de inspiración para mí. Esta dedicación se refleja en el trabajo diario de nuestros agricultores, jardineros, cultivadores, líderes y colaboradores. Su habilidad para trabajar con el ritmo de las estaciones y el clima reconoce profundamente el papel integral del cambio en nuestras vidas. Entendiendo que el cambio está en el centro de la evolución, y a su vez, de la sostenibilidad ambiental, y ésto se refleja en cómo trabajan, desde crecer y educar a la comunidad sobre las de las plantas endémicas, implementar cultivos de cobertura y agricultura en seco, hasta colaborar en proyectos de Restauración Riparia y Migración Asistida.

Trabajar junto a personas tan apasionadamente dedicadas a dar forma a un mundo más saludable ha alimentado mi propia búsqueda de cambios incrementales, día a día, que logran mejorar el bienestar de nuestras comunidades y ecosistemas. ¡Y les comparto que es súper divertido documentar estas historias y compartirlas con ustedes a través de nuestras publicaciones en el blog, newsletters y contenido en redes sociales!

Como instructora invitada en los campamentos de verano de Oxbow, he atesorado momentos con niños, investigando manzanas, explorando semillas y conociendo a los insectos que viven a lo largo del río Snoqualmie. La energía incomparable del equipo de OxEd nos inspira a cantar, reír y desarrolla una conexión profunda con la tierra: su trabajo crucial siembra semillas de curiosidad y amabilidad en todos.

Sin embargo, los momentos mágicos se extienden mucho más allá de los campamentos de verano. El aprendizaje trasciende generaciones y ofrece nuevas experiencias para todos. Desde los niños pequeños hasta sus abuelas, compartiendo la misma admiración y curiosidad mientras observan adorables murciélagos y aprenden acerca del que éstos juegan como polinizadores por primera vez. Estas conexiones tangibles que hacemos con la tierra y nuestro entorno son fundamentales para desarrollar un sentido de responsabilidad y defensa por un planeta saludable.
Presenciar estos momentos mientras los padres exclaman que sus hijos regresaron de Oxbow y comenzaron a comer todo tipo de verduras, o ver a la gente en eventos disfrutando de sabores de temporada, es una prueba viviente de que las oportunidades y experiencias que Oxbow brinda generan un constante sentido de asombro, descubrimiento y conexión.

Recientemente, mientras trabajaba en datos y números para nuestros informes de fin de año, pausé mi trabajo para explorar nuestra biblioteca de fotos y reviví todos esos momentos divertidos en la granja, desde los campamentos de verano y las ventas de plantas hasta las cenas familiares y los días de cosecha. Ha sido maravilloso ver a las familias profundizar en su viaje de defensa aplicando lo que aprenden en Oxbow en casa y regresando a eventos, talleres y recorridos.

Más allá de cultivos y estaciones, la esencia de Oxbow reside en nuestra gente y comunidad. A través de la lluvia, el sol, las inundaciones, las cosechas y el trabajo duro en días fríos, navegamos por el cambio, forjando conexiones que trascienden las estaciones. Gracias a todos ustedes que continúan apoyando nuestro trabajo.

A aquellos que son nuevos por aquí, los invito a explorar Oxbow y conectarse con las personas, plantas y tierra que los rodea. Asistan a un taller, recorran los senderos, envíen a sus hijos a campamentos y sumérjanse en la vasta cantidad de recursos y conocimientos que todos estamos ansiosos por compartirles. Ya sea un agricultor experimentado, un entusiasta de la naturaleza o un principiante en la jardinería, Oxbow es donde el cambio no se teme, sino que se abraza, siendo un catalizador para el crecimiento, la sostenibilidad y la belleza perdurable del mundo natural.

En cuanto a mí, aunque los betabeles fueron en su momento mi mayor enemigo en el plato de la cena, hoy disfruto de un brownie de betabel y chocolate hecho por mi compañera de equipo, mientras planeo mi pequeño huerto en casa e incluyo betabeles en la mezcla. Un delicioso testimonio del impacto profundo de Oxbow en mí, mi familia y mi ecosistema.

Los invito a unirse a nosotros en abrazar el cambio y cultivar un futuro donde cada temporada traiga nuevas oportunidades para el crecimiento, el aprendizaje y la armonía con el mundo que nos rodea. Juntos, sembramos las semillas del cambio, nutriendo un legado que perdurará por generaciones.
