Celery success

We are growing two celery crops this year: The crunchy stalk you are certainly familiar with and the root–celeriac–that you might not know but should be excited to try.

We approached our celery this year with a little bit of apprehension. Last year’s celeriac had pretty disappointing germination (as you can read about) and we haven’t grown any stalk celery in years. After some hand-wringing (celery takes much longer to germinate than our other greenhouse crops, so we didn’t know for a long time how things were going), we have been delighted this week to see our flats nearly full and true leaves starting to emerge.

If all goes as planned, we should have some delicious, nutty celery and celeriac coming your way for your fall feasts!
